As it is in many games, the scoreboard doesn’t tell the full story.
While the Oct. 1 Eagles game against Medicine Valley ended with a 94-55 loss to Brady, coach Andy Seamann said that there is more to the game than what those numbers say.
“We played a really good offensive game, especially in the first half,” he said. “It was probably our most complete first half blocking on the offensive side of the ball.”
The struggle for the Eagles in the game against the Raiders came on the defensive side of the ball, and Seamann said late-game errors gave the impression that the teams were more mismatched than they actually were.
“We couldn’t stop giving up big plays on third and even fourth down,” he said. “In the fourth quarter, we started to press and try to make things happen which led to mistakes and made the score look more lopsided than it was.”
Several Eagles had big games on the offensive side of the ball.
Shane Most rushed for 123 yards with three touchdowns and completed 16 of 32 passes for 288 yards.
Dillon Miller rushed for 57 yards on nine carries and had 7 receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Rylie Shirk caught 6 passes for 144 yards.
Defensively, the Eagles were led by Blake Lusk with 11 tackles.
Most added nine and Triston Stearns had eight.
Kaden Dady tallied a sack for a 4-yard loss.
The Eagles are looking for their third win of the season against the Overton Eagles on Oct. 8 at Overton High School and Seamann said that as they prepare for that all-important matchup, they are taking inventory of the season thus far.
“Overton is a must-win game for us,” he said. “The team has to learn from the positives and the negatives of the last couple of games and turn all those lessons and focus towards Overton.”
Seamann continued to say that the Overton offense features speed at the running back position and a good tight end.
“They are going to line up in tight formations and try to run the ball and keep our offense off the field,” he said. “We will have to greatly improve our discipline on defense and turn up our aggressiveness if we want to get our defense off the field.”
Brady travels to Overton on Oct. 8 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Overton High School.
