In what has been a tough season on the volleyball court for the Brady Eagles, the girls managed to hold their own against a strong Maywood/Hayes Center team last week. Brady entered the contest with a record of 6-12 and 0-1 in district play, while MHC came in with only one loss and 17 wins.
The Eagles lost the first set 15-25, but battled back stronger in the second set. However, the Wolves were just too much for the Eagles and they gave up set two 18-25.
Offensively for the Eagles, Sierra Carr, Elsie Golter and Payton Stienike each had 2 kills in the game, with Summer McConville and Taryn Stearns each adding a kill as well. McConville and Harley Bartels were each credited with an ace serve.
Defensively it was McConville and Stearns leading the way up front, each getting 3 blocks against the Wolves. Golter and Bartels each had a block as well.
Keaton Fattig dug out 7 balls on the night, while Stearns had 6 digs.
Conference play begins next week, with Brady’s first game set for Thursday, Oct. 13 against Mullen at Anselmo-Merna High School. The game will get underway at 3 p.m. CST.
