Better late than never. That adage applies to a lot of things this year, especially activities related to the Class of 2020 such as prom and graduation.

A handful of Gothenburg parents joined forces with Hirschfeld’s in North Platte, and the West Central Health District to organize a prom for the 2020 senior and junior Gothenburg High School students. The dinner and dance took place on Saturday, July 11, at the Sandhills Convention Center in North Platte.

“The generosity of our community is tremendous. The kids enjoyed a meal, music, and a drive-in movie afterward. There were tons and tons of precautions to ensure it was as safe as possible,” shared Jenny Daup, one of the members of the parent committee. “Oh...and the PRIZES...wow! TVs, camping equipment, drones, earpods, speakers, gift cards to TONS of local businesses, dorm room decor, shirts, and the list goes on and on. Thank you Gothenburg and Hirschfelds! This is a wonderful community to live in!”

Traditionally the evening concludes with an after-Prom, and in trying to make the event as “normal” as possible a drive-in movie was set up following the dance and games. The movie was sponsored by the Sun Theatre and Curbtender.

The final organized get-together for the Class of 2020 will be graduation, set for Saturday, Aug. 1.
