As though the snow and the rain of the spring and summer weren’t enough, high winds blowing at a sustained 40 mph recently sent corn stalks to the ground.

Ross and Kressy Ristine last week moved their harvesting operation to a field north of Gothenburg to salvage the yield.

Moving slowly and methodically through the rows, the Ristines took fewer rows into the combine head but were able to reach more cobs.

Kressy Ristine said once the entire field is picked, cattle from area farmers would be invited to come to clean up the stalks.
