The annual Relay for Life of Dawson County is an important event for raising funds and awareness for cancer research. Rather than canceling due to the pandemic this year, organizers opted to take a different approach.

Luminaries were displayed as they have been in past years, but rather than walking to observe them, people remained in their vehicles.

The event was held Friday, July 24 at the Gothenburg Senior Center and included a drive-thru meal. Mary Harbur, one of the event organizers, said 96 meals were served that evening, and more than 140 luminaries were on display. A silent auction was also held, and $884 was raised during the evening for cancer research.
