At the Gothenburg FFA’s monthly meeting on Nov. 4, the October Member of the Month and SAE Spotlight were announced. The Chapter began these awards last month as a way to recognize members that are doing an outstanding job participating in Chapter events and managing their SAE.

The Member of the Month for October was awarded to Emma Peterson. Emma has been an active member since joining the organization five years ago. In the month of October, she attended all FFA events and showed exemplary work in her Ag class. Emma continues to stay active by participating in livestock judging, meats judging, and public speaking. Her engagement in the Chapter activities and competitions last year bought Emma a ticket to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis the week of Oct. 25, 2021, where she was able to spend time with other highly involved members in the Chapter.

The SAE Spotlight chosen for October was Jada Rubalcava. For her SAE, Jada makes and sells caramel apples. She started her SAE two years ago and since then has been given many opportunities to grow her business. Hyvee wholesales apples to her for her project. She must make sure that the apples are clean and ready to eat before dipping them in caramel and adding various toppings. Jada uses Facebook as her marketplace. She will put out an announcement that she is doing a bulk order and includes what toppings will be featured for the month. Then, anyone can put in an order for the flavors available. Jada also does custom orders of caramel apples. The Chapter is very proud of the work and effort that Jada has put into her SAE in order to make it so successful.

Katelyn Hetz was the SAE Spotlight from September and the Gothenburg FFA Chapter would like to highlight a special achievement that she has accomplished. Katelyn’s SAE, Riverside Hives, was featured in the Nebraska FFA Foundation’s 2021 Holiday Gift Guide. Riverside Hives was one of 10 projects chosen statewide to be selected. Currently, Katelyn only sells raw honey from her hives, but is looking to expand into beeswax products as well such as candles and chapsticks.

The Gothenburg FFA Chapter is very proud of the accomplishments of their members and is glad to recognize all of the hard work and dedication that goes into making their Chapter one of the best in the state.
