While most Veterans Day events were canceled this year due to Covid, the Gothenburg Color Guard and Stone Hearth Estates came together to celebrate the day and honor their veterans.

Several of the Stone Hearth residents took a seat outside on the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 11, to participate in a short Veterans Day program. The Color Guard started things off with the presentation of colors and raising of the American flag, followed by all joining together to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Retiring facility administrator Barb Nuxoll and incoming administrator  Jacob Flint shared a few words with the residents in attendance and recognized the nine Stone Hearth veteran residents. They are:

Burton McPheeters - Korea

Allen Fickenscher - Korea

Gene Johnson - Korea

Alvin Geiken - World War II

Stu Bachmann - World War II

Wynne Norsworthy - 1952-1954, Army

Leigh McNeal - Korea

Roy Hutchinson - World War II

Roger Aden - Korea

The crowd then joined together for the singing of “God Bless America”. Stone Hearth employee Jo Atkinson closed the program with prayer. Though the entire event lasted only about 15 minutes, the residents seemed to be very appreciative of the opportunity to traditionally celebrate this very special day.
