ART awards

GHS art students Alexandra Goad and Kayla Petersen receive their awards on Saturday, Feb. 29 in Omaha. The other four GHS winners were not present.

Six Gothenburg High School art students have been awarded for their talents, one of which will now be considered for national recognition. Teens in grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up) apply for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in 29 categories of art and writing. In 2019, students submitted nearly 340,000 works of art and writing to the Scholastic Awards.

The submissions were judged by a panel, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Gold Key works are then judged nationally by an impressive panel of creative industry experts to receive national medals.

Gothenburg students receiving awards are: Alexandra Goad - Gold Key; Emily Schwanz - Silver Key; Kayla Peterson - Silver Key; Larissa Plenty Chief - Silver Key; Bella Rickertsen - Silver Key; and Jocelyn Hendricks - Honorable Mention.
