Even though many events are not happening this Christmas season as they have in years past, the Gothenburg community still has opportunities to enjoy the festive season - and opportunities to help others who may be struggling this year.

Gothenburg Shares is a project hosted by the Gothenburg Noon Rotary which provides food baskets to local families in need. Will Rahjes spearheads the donation drive for that project and said those have been down this year compared to years past. He encourages anyone who has thought about making a donation to this year’s Gothenburg Shares program to drop off your donation at either bank or either newspaper in town. Food baskets will be distributed next week.

The Sun Theatre is hosting a different take on the Holiday Tour of Homes this year by offering lighted home displays and encouraging viewers to vote for their favorites. Each home on the tour paid a low entry fee, and votes cost $1 each with all proceeds going to the Sun Theatre. Voting is open through Dec. 20, so go for a drive and vote for your favorite!

One of the listings on the Tour of Homes, “candy cane lane”, has a table set up to receive donations for the local food pantry. You may drop off your non-perishable food items on 25th Street between 6-10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18.
