The Gothenburg Public Schools School Board.

After postponing the original date of the November meeting, the Gothenburg Board of Education met on Thursday, Nov. 11 with a short agenda. The meeting was kicked off by FFA members Helene Keiser, Arissa Ackerman and Elissa Foley addressing the board with a summary of the storied chapter’s many activities over the summer, as well as the school year so far.

Superintendent Dr. Todd Rhodes presented a powerpoint of this year’s audit to the board, highlighlighting specific information for the members to note as they make their way through examining the audit. The board will take the next month to review the information and vote on approval of the audit at the December meeting.

Moving into administrator reports, Elementary Principal Angie Richeson reported on another successful year of an online book fair - adding that staff is looking forward to being able to get the parents and stakeholders back in the building.

Activities Director Marc Mroczek commended the student athletes at GHS for ending their fall sports seasons on a high note, with the boys cross country team finishing fifth at State, and the volleyball team earning their first ever trip to the State Tournament. He said things are not slowing down much though, as play production season is underway which involves a large group of kids, as is junior high girls basketball and wrestling.

Allison Jonas began her presentation by commending Mrs. Bell for the exemplary work she is doing in meeting the very challenging GOLD Data in the early childhood program. She also updated the status of the new language arts curriculum, now in its second year of implementation, and social studies curriculum.

As with all the other reports, Dr. Rhodes also kept his report extremely short. He said he was happy to report that the district continues to operate in the Green risk tier.

Board member Becky Jobman read off the list of school policies 4034-4062 presented for first reading. With no other business, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public.
