Dawson County Veteran Services Officer Steve Zerr is inviting all Vietnam era veterans to a special photo opportunity later this month. In honor of Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day on March 21, all Vietnam era veterans are invited for a group photo at the Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles in Lexington.

The group photo will be taken promptly at 6:15 p.m. However, other photos will be taken beforehand, while waiting for veterans to arrive. Zerr will also be on hand to answer any questions and provide information about veteran’s benefits.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed every year on March 29 and is a way to thank and honor our nation’s Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. On March 28, 2017, President Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. This act officially recognizes March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The Act also includes the day among those days on which the US flag should especially be displayed.

March 29 was chosen as National Vietnam War Veterans Day because on March 29, 1973, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was disbanded and the last U.S. combat troops departed the Republic of Vietnam. The last unit was elements of MACV’s Infantry Security Force (Special Guard), actually special couriers.
