Herbert “Shorty” T. Magana, 88, of Gothenburg died April 12, 2020, at Gothenburg Health. He was born July 16, 1931, in Maple Park, Illinois son of Emigdio Tututi-Cruz and Hermina Nieves.
He was united in marriage to Molly Martinez on April 25, 1956, in Lexington. To this union four children were born: Juanita, Rick, Sylvia, Herbert Jr., and then later adopted sons Frank and Jesse Magana.
Shorty worked at Mann Hay Company and Island Dehy. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, and spending time with all of his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Molly Magana of Gothenburg; three daughters, Juanita (Marco) Valenzuela of Columbus, Sylvia (Gary) Risman of Cimarron, Kansas, and Carmen (Felix) Tututi Vitela of Mexico; four sons, Rick (Hedi) Magana of Grand Island, Herbert (Janice) Magana Jr. of Gothenburg, Frank (Laurae) Magana of Lexington, and Jesse (Annette) Magana of Gothenburg; special granddaughter Jessica Rodríguez (Jay) who he and Molly raised; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, a sister and two grandsons.
Private family services were held. A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Gothenburg on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. The family asks that everyone in attendance wears a mask.
