Mark Axthelm, 68, of Gothenburg died April 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 29, 1952, in North Platte, son of Cecil and Doris (Anderson) Axthelm. Mark grew up in North Platte, attended McKinley Grade School and graduated from North Platte High School. He lived in North Platte until 1971 and moved to Gothenburg until his passing.

He married Stephanie Weber on April 2, 1971, in North Platte, and to this union two children were born: Jamie and Jenny. Mark and Steph farmed and ranched south of Gothenburg. He was a member of Banner United Methodist Church and had received his 50-year membership pin. Mark loved his grandchildren dearly, loved to hunt, and loved his cattle.

Survivors include wife, Steph Axthelm of Gothenburg; daughter, Jenny (Steve) Skupa of Campbell; son, Jamie (JoEllen) Axthelm of Seward; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Skupa, Alexa Axthelm, Sydney Skupa, Abbie Skupa and Ander Axthelm; sister, Kylie (David) Young of Rogersville, Missouri; two brothers, Tim (Mary) Axthelm of North Platte and Mike Axthelm of Hillsboro, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Mark was preceded in death by parents, Cecil and Doris Axthelm; sister-in-law, Deb Axthelm; and niece, Donnie Farr.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Sunday, April 18 from 1 - 4 p.m. with family present from 1 - 3 p.m. Services will be held at Banner United Methodist Church on April 19 at 2 pm with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating. Casual dress is encouraged and jeans or overalls would be appropriate. Burial will follow in the Peckham Cemetery in Gothenburg.
