Robert Russell Schmeeckle, 31, of Gothenburg died May 23, 2021, near Cozad. He was born July 28, 1989, in Omaha, son of Susan Schmeeckle.

Robert lived in Omaha from birth to 1997, then his family moved to Gothenburg where he attended school at Gothenburg and Brady. Following graduation, he moved to Mesa, Arizona for six years where he attended RSI for HVAC schooling. He returned to Nebraska and worked as a tree trimmer for Double L Tree Service.

His special interests were family, motorcycle riding with his mom and step-dad, and he loved his dogs Debo, Gunner and Roxy. Robert was one to always put others before himself, and was always making people laugh. He always loved his Nerf gun wars with his nephews.

Survivors include his wife, MayKayla Rhoten of Wichita, Kansas; mother and step-dad, Susan Rae and Jimmy “Pops” Vogt of Overton; two daughters, Ava Schmeeckle and Hadlee Schmeeckle; son, Kaden Schmeeckle; three sisters, Justina Rodriguez, Shelby Butzke and Shawna Rae Schmeeckle; three brothers-in-law, Tyrel Benson, Aaron Blevins and Jacob Butzke; uncle and aunt, Tim and Teri Schmeeckle; step-brother, AJ Abbot; nieces and nephews, Cyrus, Ethan, Jace, Tierra, and Raelyn; along with many cousins, extended family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dale and Bev Schmeeckle; grandmother, Judy Durand; grandfather, Bob McCoy; grandmother, Mary McCoy; aunt, Linda Durand, and uncle, Rick Durand.

Services will be held at The Crossing Fellowship on Thursday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m. with Eric Most officiating. Memorials may be given to the mental health organization of your choice.
