The Nebraska Coaches Association released All-State honors earlier this month and Gothenburg’s William Anderson was named to the Class C All-State Cross Country Team.
Anderson had a sparkling career as a Swede, earning three state medals and two Southwest Conference individual Championships.
“It is not very often a runner of Will’s caliber comes along,” Swede cross country head coach Tony Neels said. “Medaling three times (at the state level) in high school boys’ cross country is not an easy task.”
Neels went on to say that Anderson’s athletic talent will not be the only thing that is missed as Anderson moves on to future endeavors.
“Will’s leadership will be missed greatly, but the work ethic he instilled in our young runners these past few years will show for years to come.”
This is the second All-State selection for Anderson, and Neels said that Will has certainly set the bar high.
“He has definitely set the standard for our younger runners to try to match,” Neels said. “This is a very deserving award for a very talented, hard-working and dependable athlete.”
