The Gothenburg Angels hit the road June 27-28 for the Fire Cracker Tournament in McCook, bringing home a second-place finish for the weekend.
The team started the weekend against a tough McCook Rebels team at 8 a.m. and had a difficult time getting off to a good start. The Rebels took the game 21-3 in the first game.
In the second game against the Brush, Colorado Beatdiggers, the Angels handily walked away with a 10-2 win.
The Angels bats stayed hot when they returned for the second day of the tournament and handled Northeastern Gold with little trouble en route to a 16-0 win over the team from Colorado.
The final game of the tournament saw the Angels take on the North Platte Bandits. The Angles sealed that last game with an 8-4 win over a club that played the McCook Rebels within four runs earlier in the tournament.
The Angels travel to Cozad July 2 for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
