The Gothenburg Junior Melons took the field for their first home games of the season last week, as they hosted Alma on Monday, Ogallala on Wednesday, and a doubleheader with Kimball on Saturday. In each of these games, the Melons recorded more than 8 hits and on the week they outscored their opponents 42-10.
The pitchers combined for 26 strikeouts against 89 batters, giving them a 29.2% strikeout rate during the four games, as we saw the pitching debut of Andrew Salomon, Kale Dea, and Brigham Ricley.
The Melons extended their win streak to four games to start the week against the Alma Mudcats. After a first inning that saw the Melons collect 2 runs and Alma 1, the Melons busted the door open in their half of the second with 6 runs. They went on to win in five innings, 11-3.
