The primary item on the Sept. 15 agenda of the Gothenburg City Council was final approval of the 2026-27 city budget and accompanying resolution to set the tax levy.
After several meetings and opportunities for local residents to offer feedback on the proposed budget, no citizens appeared at the meeting for final adoption. The budget for 2026-27 will increase by a minimal 1.9 percent over last year’s at $1,280,251.50. The tax rate will levy the same amount of property taxes as last year, and was set at 0.35812 per $100 of assessed value.
