The Gothenburg Melons kicked off their season this past weekend with games against Holdrege and Imperial.
The Melons traveled to Holdrege on May 29, where they were anxious to begin the season.
In the top of the first inning, Callen Johnson led off with a double on the first pitch. Johnson struck first for the Melons as he stole third and advanced home on a passed ball to start off this season with the Melons first run. In the bottom of the first, the Melons gave up 5 runs on 4 walks, 1 hit batter, and 1 hit bringing the score to 5-1 in favor of Holdrege. The Melons then struggled to find a barrel as they went three up three down in the next two innings.
