The Gothenburg Junior Melons played three games during this last week, including a double-header vs McCook and a rematch with cross-county rivals Lexington. The Melons needed to win all three games to qualify for the League Championship for the first time since 2002. The Melons quickly decimated McCook in both games, needing only Jaxon Earll and Evan Geiser on the bump.
The Melons combined for 12 strikeouts while only giving up 3 hits in total. They threw 81 strikes on 144 pitches, giving them a 56.25% strike rate. The Melons out-scored McCook 19-2 in the two games, and the standout batter for the Melons was William McVay, going 2 for 3 with 3 walks in the two games. After a dominant day, the Melons turned to Lexington, where, as expected, it was a brawl from the first pitch.
