Over the past couple of months, Syndicate Publishing has handed off our Cozad Local and Minden Courier publications to new owners.
Thankfully, local owners, backed by the support of local economic development and chamber organizations, were able to step in to ensure those communities continued to have a local newspaper.
The reason for this change should not be a surprise to anyone.
Local newspapers today face challenges that did not exist even a decade ago. Rising costs, changing advertising habits, and the shift to digital consumption have made it increasingly difficult for small, community-based publications to survive, let alone thrive.
