The City of Gothenburg provides a permanent 24-hour public roll-off container for bulky waste and a 24-hour recycling drop-off site.
The program also includes Clean City Week in June. It is a service valued by many residents. However, it is also a service that is continually abused. Once again, that was a subject addressed by the Gothenburg City Council at its July 21 meeting.
City Administrator Gary Greer brought the issue before the council seeking direction on how to proceed with the program in planning next year’s city budget. The residential solid waste collection is provided under a non-exclusive franchise arrangement with two private haulers.
The City provides the roll-off container and recycling site, while the haulers collect, transport, and dispose of materials.
