Eric William Dodson, 56 of Cozad, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026. Though our hearts are deeply saddened by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Eric loved Jesus and is now home with his Lord and Savior.
Eric was born on Feb. 11, 1970, and spent his early childhood in California before moving to Nebraska in 1978. He graduated from Gothenburg High School with the Class of 1988. In 1994, Eric welcomed his beloved daughter, Abby, who remained one of his greatest blessings. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with her, including sharing his lifelong love for Nebraska Cornhusker football by taking her to a Huskers game when she was young.
Eric made his home in Cozad, where he lived until his passing. He gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized, a decision that transformed the course of his life. His faith became the foundation upon which he lived, shaping the way he loved, served, and encouraged those around him.
Eric’s love for Christ was evident in both word and deed. He faithfully volunteered behind the scenes at the Livin’ Out Loud concerts in Gothenburg with sponsorship and security for 10 years, finding great joy in serving others and helping share the hope of the Gospel with countless people.
A devoted Nebraska Cornhuskers fan of football and basketball, Eric rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Huskers. Win or lose, he remained a loyal supporter and loved talking Husker sports with anyone willing to join the conversation. Eric created a page dedicated to the Huskers, The Husker Boneyard, which reached hundreds of fans alike.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Abby Hansen, and her fiancé, Sean; his father, Eric Dodson Sr. and his wife, Connie, of Oregon; his twin brother, Jason Dodson, of Cozad; his sisters, Tammy Linden and her husband, Robby, of Kearney, and Molly and her fiancé, Barry Brush, of Madrid; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him. Eric was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Kathy Schroeder; his grandmother, Charlene Duckworth; and his grandfather, Herbert Harget.
While we grieve Eric’s absence, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. We find peace in knowing he has been reunited with his mother and now rests in the presence of the Savior he faithfully loved and served.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23 Eric will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his servant’s heart, his love for his family, and his unwavering devotion to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
His legacy of kindness, compassion, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A celebration of Eric’s Life shall take place at Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel & Monuments, 620 10th Street, Gothenburg.
