The Gothenburg High School varsity volleyball team kicked off the 2026 season on Thursday, Aug. 27, with a big win on their home court.
In a “Throwback Thursday” format that featured volleyball and football games back-to-back, the Swedes hosted in-county rival Cozad and took care of business, as they tallied a 3 sets to 1 victory over the Haymakers. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15.
Senior Grace Evert led the Lady Swedes, racking up 14 digs, 9 kills, and 2 solo blocks. Fellow senior Zoe Beveridge was also strong on both sides of the ball, with 12 digs and 10 kills.
