Liam Johnston Gamble, 30, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026, in a tragic automobile accident.
Liam graduated from Wellesley High School in 2014 where he was an athlete and accomplished musician; he especially enjoyed performing and touring with the New England Conservatory Youth Wind Ensemble as a tuba player. He attended Lehigh University and graduated from Gordon College in 2020, working summers at Moose River Outpost Camp where he met his devoted wife, Abi. Liam was relied upon by family and friends to provide thoughtful insight, clever wit, and a listening ear. His childhood highlights included many visits to his father's homeland of Ireland and annual summer gatherings at his grandparents’ farm in Nebraska where he relished being surrounded by family.
Liam was known for his hearty laugh, giant hugs and gentle spirit. His great pride and joy was his wife, Abi. Together they adventured in mountain hiking and world travel; they built deep connections in their families, community, and church. They enjoyed reading together in the evenings and developing their spiritual lives as disciples of Jesus. Liam was a fun-loving, devoted, and creative soul; he loved his work in cybersecurity technology and was passionate about cooking and writing. He is survived by his wife, Abigail Kathleen Gamble; his parents, Keith and Julie (McPheeters) Gamble of Wellesley, Massachusetts; his siblings, Enya, Neev and Finn; his father-in-law and motherin- law, Ron and Anne Mackey of Hendersonville, North Carolina; his sisters-in-law, Emily Littauer (Nathanael) and Grace Mackey; his brotherin- law, Sam Mackey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 15, in Greenville, South Carolina. A private interment was held on Friday, July 17, at Peckham Cemetery south of Gothenburg, near his grandparents Burton and Betty McPheeters.
