The Gothenburg Junior Melons played three games this past weekend, including a game against Alma and a doubleheader in Kimball. Against Alma on Friday, June 26, the Melons won 9-1 as they hung 8 runs in the top of the 7th to run away with the win.
William McVay and Evan Geiser tagteamed Alma, striking out 8 and only giving up 5 hits on the day. McVay and Geiser combined for 55 strikes on 91 pitches, meaning their combined strike percentage was 60.4%.
The Melons then carried this momentum into the Saturday doubleheader in Kimball. In the first game of the doubleheader, the Melons proceeded to score 1 or more runs in each of the five innings the Melons got to bat. This resulted in an inevitable run rule as Kimball seemed completely outmatched.
