Recap of Junior Melons Season for the Ages

    The Gothenburg Junior Melons recently finished their season after dropping their last game in an absolute heartbreaking 5-7 loss to Holdrege in the area championship. This loss did not demonstrate the truly immaculate season the Melons had.

    The Melons finished the season with a 22-5 record filled with ups and downs. For the first time in a while, the team found success on the defensive end, especially pitching. The Melons Pitching staff had a combined ERA (Earned Run Average thru 9) of 2.944, WHIP (Walks Hits per Innings Pitched) of 1.608, and a BAA (Batting Average Against) of .205.

    The Melons’ defense really found its stride this season as a collective, having a .930 fielding percentage while turning 10 double plays. After dropping the first game of the season, they went five games before …
