Swedes Earn Third Place Team, Two State Champions!

The Gothenburg High School men’s track and field team has enjoyed a remarkable season, and capped it off last week with a third-place team finish and two state champions at the Nebraska State Track & Field Championships.
Burke Stadium in Omaha was the setting as the Swedes qualified 15 athletes on the men’s and women’s teams for this year’s state meet. Of those qualifiers, seven of the men and two of the ladies brought home medals.
Sophomore Bryson Neels broke his own school record times in both the 400m (48.84) and 800m (1:53.01) on the Omaha track, claiming the gold medal in the 800m and the silver in the 400m. He picked up his third medal of the meet in the 4x400 relay, which finished fourth (3:24.53).
