The Gothenburg boys’ golf team made a return trip to Crandall Creek Golf Course in Ogallala on Wednesday, May 20 - one of 15 teams to take the course in the C-5 District Meet. The fact that the Swedes have played this course so many times seems to have been to their advantage, as they had an excellent day.
Sophomore Valon Pfeifer carded a 37 in his opening nine holes and followed that up with 39 in his back nine, to finish with a very impressive 76.
That put him in a tie for first place with Ogallala’s Rylan Gilmore, which Gilmore ultimately won in a hardfought two-hole playoff.
Pfeifer ended the day with the district silver medal and helped his team secure third place overall, which secured the team’s qualification for the state tournament.
