There are not a lot of community events that have the distinction of running for more than 75 years, but the Camp Comeca Cookout is one of the exceptions. This August, the Camp will host its 76th annual finger-lickin’ good cookout - and you will not want to miss it!
The first event was held in 1950, the same year the Cozad Methodist Church established Camp Comeca in the beautiful hills south of Cozad and Gothenburg. Overlooking Midway Lake, the picturesque setting is perfect for a church camp - and ideal for serving a large group of people fantastic BBQ food.
The cookout began with a tradition of serving buffalo meat, which continued for a number of years. That has since given way to barbecued ribs and chicken, guaranteed to be some of the best you will find anywhere around.
