Gothenburg Celebrates America’s Birthday With Community Concert

Members of the community of Gothenburg came together for a few weeks of rehearsals prior to putting on an outstanding patriotic concert for the public on Friday, July 3. Under the direction of Ernie Blecha, the concert was held at American Lutheran Church and was attended by a large audience. 
Operation Shine Camp is a unique summer camp geared for children with autism and Down Syndrome. This year, several volunteers from Gothenburg helped at the camp near Hordville. Pictured front row, from left, are: Jenny Daup, Shiloh Schultz, Claire Vincent, Briony Aden, and Natalie Waskowiak (who now lives in Kearney); back row: Brant Miller, Carter Vincent, and Alan Daup. What do you do in a slow season of life?I’ve heard them called the lazy days of summer, yet when my kids were growing up, summer felt anything but lazy. We ran from swimming lessons to ball games. Sports camps, church camp, Vacation Bible School, and weightlifting filled the calendar.
