After denying an application requesting to construct a new cell tower in Gothenburg, the City found itself in the midst of a lawsuit. That matter has now been settled - and there will be no new tower.
In December 2024, The Towers, LLC, a company that develops telecommunications infrastructure for wireless carriers such as Verizon, applied for a special use permit to build a 105-foot cell tower north of Gothenburg in the city’s extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction. The Gothenburg Planning & Zoning Commission held a public hearing in February 2025 on the request and voted 4-3 to recommend denying the permit. The matter then went before the city council.
