GPS Welcomes Nine New Teachers For 2026-27

Classes resume at Gothenburg Public Schools on Wednesday, Aug. 19, and this year nine new teachers will be joining the GPS family. The new teachers were introduced to the campus on Aug. 3, when they had their first day of orientation.

The keeper of stories has often been a woman.I didn’t realize how much that mattered until I moved my aunt across the country in a U-Haul. She is the last living sibling on my mother's side. Like so many women before her, she carries the family's stories.

Retaining their young people is the goal of every small community, and the key to a vibrant and thriving town. So when a Gothenburg native leaves high school and goes off to college, then returns to their hometown with the knowledge they have gained to live and work - that is a big win.
Dedication of the Nebraska historical marker for the Swedish Crosses Cemetery northeast of town took place. Family members from the Berg family were in attendance. In 2025 an Eagle Scout project, spearheaded by Brigham Ricley and Burke Finke and supported by the Chamber Tourism Committee, placed a wrought iron fence around the cemetery, refurbished the Nebraska historical marker, added a pathway from the road up to the cemetery all in an effort to preserve a part of our Swedish heritage.
