Gothenburg Junior Melons Fight Till Final Breath

The Melons, after a massive win against Valparaiso on July 13, were set for a fierce rematch with rivals Holdrege in the B-6 Area Tournament last week. This time, the rematch would be win twice or go home for the Melons, where Holdrege had room to lose one game.

The Gothenburg swim team concluded their short and very successful season on Saturday, July 11, as they competed in the Plains tSunami League Championship Meet at the Lexington Family Aquatic Center.Along with teams from across Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas were also represented.

The Gothenburg Junior Melons played three games during this last week, including a double-header vs McCook and a rematch with cross-county rivals Lexington. The Melons needed to win all three games to qualify for the League Championship for the first time since 2002.

Big Bats, Good Pitching, Victorious Weekend For Junior Melons

The Gothenburg Junior Melons played three games this past weekend, including a game against Alma and a doubleheader in Kimball. Against Alma on Friday, June 26, the Melons won 9-1 as they hung 8 runs in the top of the 7th to run away with the win.
